Breastaphobic airline

I hope Delta Air Lines has checked out SkyWest's attitude toward public breast-feeding, now that Delta announced it is re-assigning 12 Comair jets to Utah-based SkyWest.

Delta has been the target of "nurse-ins" at airports around the country, including Columbus and Louisville. The protests stem from an Oct. 13 Vermont incident aboard a commuter plane, which Freedom Airlines was operating for Delta. A nursing mother was thrown off the flight for refusing a blanket offered by a breastaphobic flight attendant. To make matters worse, the flight reportedly was three hours late in taking off.

Outraged nursing mothers have been staging protests this week around the country against Delta. As if the bankrupt airline -- with its second largest hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International -- needs any more bad publicity. Pediatricians recommend mothers breast feed infants on flight ascents and descents to ease air pressure pain in babies' ears. Both Ohio and Kentucky, by the way, have laws against stopping nursing mothers from public breast feeding.

On Homeland Security's threat levels, where exactly would you rank public breast feeding aboard commercial jets?

I guess when you have nothing substantive to write about, this is what you get.

Tony, perhaps you have some thoughtful comments on the fat content of Britney Spears tush?

I thought this was an interesting and informative bit of news.

My reaction: cover up. Watching a baby nurse at a breast is about as "natural" and entertaining to watch as someone digging in their nose to relieve a sinus infection, or a diabetic guest bellying up to the dinner table and injecting insulin after finishing Thanksgiving dinner. Decorum people, decorum. Why does every bodily function dealing with children have to be a marvel in which all of society must participate? Next, passing gas will be acceptable because it's "natural."

It's just a boob, people! The overwhelming majority of us have seen one in our lifetime, and will probably see one again! I get no arousal from watching women breastfeed, and those who are uncomfortable with this staple of motherhood should just turn their perverted heads away.

On a related note, what about all those Muslim imams who were blackshirted by Homeland Security the other day simply because some people were uncomfortable with their praying? I'll bet these same people are the ones who are uncomfortable with breastfeeding in public and, laughably, are fed up with the radical liberal secularists "outlawing" [Christian] prayer in our schools . . .

I would just like to say that being a mother of three small children, I find it very offensive, that a mother would breastfeed in public, ithout covering herself. Let along a toddler, not an infant. I think the mother herself has issues. That child is too old to be breastfed in public. The mother should have some respect for others.
Furthermore, if the flight was run by Freedom airlines for Delta. Then wouldn't it be Freedom flight attendants and pilots, not Delta. I think that people need to get their facts straight first and stop trying to ruin the only airline that is bring prosperity to this city. If Delta were to fold or USAIr were to take them over, this city would face drastic economical problems. Through Toyota,P&G and many other companies that are here because of our airport. People need to ban together and do whatever they can so the airline can succeed. Let's face it, the Greater Cincinnati area is not what it once was, we need to help rebuild.

Just because we are able to do something, doesn't mean we should. We struggle with morality and laud this practice as "freedom", but where do we stop. How would you feel if someone urinated or defecated in the terminal and then defended th epractice because it's "natural"?
Modesty is a virtue as well and one that sadly has been lost in this country by many.

Agree with first comment. Must have been a slow news day. It's also strange that the brestfeeding situation has somehow been linked with the Comair flying going to SkyWest situation.

Tony,
I am going to agree with a couple of other posters here: What does the 'nurse-in' have to do with Delta reassigning the Comair CRJs to Skywest? The incident happened on Freedom Airlines, which has nothing to do with Comair and Skywest except they all feed DL flights. Slow news day, eh?

Typically Enquirer approach - Crap on Delta, for anything and EVERYTHING even if it is inaccurate or not factual (as MANY of the negative letters to the editor are regarding the company...see the letter for the new resident to Cincinnati complaining about fares and saying Delta only has service from CVG to other DL hubs..while not true at all, you guys printed the letter anyway).
