Monzel’s Response – Environmental Issues

My plans for public transportation involve: 1) working with SORTA to create bus routes that connect the East and West sides of our city and 2) developing more bike trails that truly provide green transportation opportunities to our citizens.

One way to make local food readily available is to support our local producers by purchasing from our great neighborhood farmer markets such as Findlay Market (www.findlaymarket.org ), Northside Farmers Market (www.northside.net/GetInvolved/famersmarket.shtml ), and College Hill Farmers Market (www.collegehilloh.net).

One way in which to hold any company accountable for air pollution is to call the Hamilton County Environmental Services air quality hotline (946-7777). This hotline enables residents to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to report any air quality concerns. They will record the information and send someone out to check on the complaint.

I definitely support curbside recycling. In addition, there are other ways that recycling can help the environment as well as those in need. You can donate your pop cans to local charities such as Franciscan Haircuts for the Poor a great organization that uses the money from your donated cans to offer free haircuts to those in need (www.haircutsfromtheheart.org ).
