Monzel’s Response – Jail Space
If the voters overturn the sales tax, then we need to move forward with the plan to construct the modular “tent” jail proposal. I believe this is very doable based on the following.
First, the land already belongs to the county (Kahns sold it to us for $10) - so there is no cost of acquisition.
Second, by using the modular "tent" units, the construction time is shorter since they are already pre-made...therefore costs will be lower.
And third, by building the new modular "tent" jail we can close two other jail facilities and use their operating funding to run the operations of this modular “tent” jail proposal.
