George Zamary Response - Privatizng City Services
Q. What are council candidates’ positions on privatizing more city services such as street cleaning, parks maintenance, garbage collection, traffic signal and sign maintenance, etc.?
The city should take advantage of the most cost effective and quality services available, whether they are public or private. Privatizing city services is no guarantee of a decrease in cost or increase in service, but it would spark competition and in turn, potentially improve services and costs. Each service that is opened to privatization must be carefully examined, though. Jobs, efficiency, cost effectiveness and quality must all be weighed and the risks of such a move mitigated before moving forward with such a plan.
