PAVELISH ON THE BANKS PROJECT

Many Councilmembers and those running for Council spend lots of time talking about how the City needs a governmental comprehensive plan on developing the City as a region, starting with the downtown area and then connecting to our core traditional neighborhoods. It has been mentioned several times that a comprehensive plan has not been developed since 1948 and we need one NOW... And many Councilmembers and those running for Council are at times somewhat convincing . But here are the facts. How can we as a city plan and develop a total comprehensive plan that would include the likes of Price Hill, Walnut Hills, Avondale, Westwood, Northside, etc. when the city cannot plan, agree on, and develop one small spot of land along the river (the Banks)?? Here in Cincinnati it seems like politics and political favors to a few once again comes before what is best for Cincinnati and the people of Cincinnati and our "leaders" have this inability to do anything in a timely fashion.

But yes, it is the political season and several Councilmembers are fighting to save face (and their Council seat) and a Banks project will probably be approved by election time. But will it be the best fit for Cincinnati??

I suggest that when it comes time to develop Banks - part 2 ( which would include the area west of Paul Brown Stadium), just put all the movers and shakers in a large bus (please include the Mayor - he loves to travel) and drive east 300 miles and visit Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is a very similar river town with all the hills and valleys and just about the same population. Plan to spend a whole week there and bring lots of cash as you will see SIX developed riverbanks along the THREE rivers. And you will see hotels, stadiums, the arts, educational centers, condos of various price ranges, hotels, comedy clubs, and restaurants that please people of all ages. And don't forget to ride the world famous incline or one of TEN Gaterway Clipper ships. And guess what, no crime. And before you leave please ask their mayor for the blueprint so we can get started here on OUR development RIGHT AWAY. And soon plan for another fieldtrip, this time to Indy.

The Banks project is a financial disaster:
- AIG was in the know and pulled out because it was not an economically feasible project
- Carter and Dawson will only proceed if the public subsidy is high enough to guarantee them profits.
- The Old White Money on 4th and 5th street are fighting Banks development because they don’t won’t competition for their obsolete office space.
- Now other businesses are complaining about losing parking spaces to the furture Bank's Tenants.
What a colossal SNAFU!

If the City and the County are going to fund the projects and take all the risks, why doesn’t the public keep ownership too? We gave Paul Brown Stadium away to the Brown Family and GABP to the Reds. Why are we giving The Banks Away too

Hamilton County owns both Paul Brown Stadium and Great American Ball Park.

Not sure what argument you're trying to make here.
