Keep on talking

While the Enquirer has made its endorsements in the Cincinnati City Council race, the debates and campaigning are far from over.

During the past few weeks a good deal of discussion about the issues in this contest has occurred on this blog. All 25 council candidates, incumbents and challengers, have been invited to discuss the issues and answer questions as guest bloggers. Most have participated, logging more than 150 separate posts since we opened it to them on Sept. 28. Many of the posts are detailed position statements that have drawn a lot of reader comment. The candidates have touched on everything from streetcars to the marijuana ordinance to development to public safety and more.

Although the Editorial Board has now made its choices, the voters have not, which is why we are letting the discussion continue here. We believe the community is well- served by a vigorous exchange of ideas among candidates and thoughtful questions and comments from the voters.

Thanks to all those who participated -- candidates and regular folks. To those who didn't, well, there is still time to join the conversation.

Very pleased that the Enquirer is officially backing John Eby! Mr. Eby is the type of candidate that we need on council and hopefully this endorsement helps in the name recognition area to get him enough votes to make the top 9!

I believe if Laketa Cole doesn't issue a truthful public statement by 3PM on Monday, the Enquirer has an obligation to the voters to rescind their endorsement.

The behavior that was reported in the media is an everyday, burdensome event in our crime-filled neighborhoods. Now we have public figures defending such unsavory behavior.

Mr. Wells -

I want to thank you for the "service" you offered to the candidates - I found their answers informative and helped in making my decisions on who to vote for.

One thing I would have liked - but not sure if it's possible in this format - is a way to search and see all of one particular candidate's answers, vs. having to filter through each day's posting.

I would have also liked to have the supporters and opponents of the various issues have postings, too.

But, all in all, it was a great first time experience. Thanks again!

I agree that this forum was an informative public service. Next time around, a search for answers by candidate should be made available. It would also probably be helpful if the candidates answered the questions directly in the comments to the post of the question as opposed to a separate post.

I changed my mind. Now I will vote against Laketa Cole. I don't like an official who lies and then blames law enforcement officials for her record of poor behavior. Ms. Cole's actions lost my vote for her

Mr Wells-

Please tell me that your endorsements were completed prior to Laketa Cole's recent escapades?

I also wanted to thank you for the concept. In the process, you really "outed" some nut jobs. Perhaps, it would be better to say that you allowed the nut jobs to out themselves.

Great way to get some more hits to your blog and improve your bottom line. Citizens already have blogs and don't need this. We need you to give better coverage in your paper!

How come the Enquirer only endorses the big wigs? It seem they only care about the politics behind the candidates running. Why not support who will do the best job?
