The Zimpher package

UC President Nancy Zimpher got a well-deserved contract extension into 2012. See the story and link to the detailed contract here.

Most interesting note in the story: Zimpher turned down a $37,000 raise to the first year's base pay, which would have gone from $343,350 a year to $380,164. She noted the university had to trim $27 million from the budget this year and was setting a good example. I know lots of people will snort at that, noting that $343,350 isn't chump change and the deal comes with a nice place to live, investment counseling, deferred income, car allowance and a job for her husband. But how many of those scoffers would willingly pass up $37 grand?

Besides, all the goodies in the package pretty much represent the going rate for big school university presidents these days and there are plenty who get more. She is insisting UC raise its sights beyond the athletic department, and for that she deserves credit.

Contract clause I found most interesting involves the car allowance (Section 5, paragraph d): "As a condition of her employment as President, the University requires the President to drive, in the performance of her duties, an automobile that appropriately reflects her position." Just what does that mean exactly?

UC is a major public research institution in a state whose governor just announced he wants Ohio to be a leader in energy research. So would it be reflective of her position for Zimpher to tool about in an electric car? How about one fueled by Ohio corn? Maybe something solar? Or she could take a lead in the fuel conservation efforts and opt for a Moped.

Why is her contract well deserved? What has UC done under her leadership to benefit the people of Ohio and or its former owners the citizens of Cincinnati?

I LOVE ZIMPHER!

The colllege's abandoned hypocritical sports program, the rising tuition, etc. just were not a true reflection of our values in the community - Zimpher is steadfastly restoring those values in one of our biggest institutions . Hopefully, the rest of the community will follow her leadership - good for the school, good for the students, good for the community.
I'm impressed

Maybe Rosa at the CPS Board of Ed should take a clue. She accepted the raise the board gave her, but is cutting millions out of the district budget.

Long live Queen Zimpher!
Hail Queen Zimpher!

Only thing I've noticed since the Queen took her throne is programs of study have been cut, their evening and adult learning programs are only a shell of what they were, and available evening classes have dried up.

I couldn't even get classes approved for transfer by another institution because UC's class curriculum was less in-depth. But the same classes at Cincinnati State were equivalent and transferable... CS better than UC- that shows what the Queen has done for the school.

She's the Queen of the education liberals. Her cheerleaders are among the most radicals around. So when you hear cheers, realize it's the nepotism of the liberals and not the true measure of her performance.

It's amazing that the Board of Trustees continue to rise to a level of incompetence unheard of before. They have extended the contract of an utter incompetent.

Zimpher has divided the college community hopelessly.

Zimpher and the Board of Trustees, especially Jeff Wyler should resign in mass in order that the college can heal.

No instead we are spending $350,000 at a time when Zimpher has displayed incompetence at a massive level.

A huge banner should be placed across the entrances to UC reading, "ABANDON ALL HOPE YE WHO ENTER HERE."
