You can run, but you can't hide -- from this race

We all know Congresswoman Jean Schmidt likes to run -- marathons, six-mile jaunts around the Mall in Washington -- but her perennial opponent Victoria Wulsin does, too.

Wulsin has announced she'll run against Schmidt again in 2008.

It's turning into the race that never ends.

Wulsin campaigned for the Democratic nomination in 2005, when Rob Portman vacated the seat to become U.S. trade representative, triggering a special election. Losing to Paul Hackett in June, 2005, Wulsin was back vying for the seat by Spring 2006, won the Democratic nomination and battled not only up to the November 2006 election, but for three weeks afterward, holding out hope for provisional ballots.

Now she's thrown her hat in the ring for an election that is still 19 months off.

From a contender who was, " Victoria Who?" in 2005, she's become a familiar face and name -- so familiar that we almost can't remember when she wasn't running for the 2nd District seat. And Schmidt, who had to battle for it twice in 15 months, seems destined to stay in campaign mode forever.

These two women are political marathoners -- they like to run, they run to win and they apparently can run forever. But the race that never seems to end might just leave the rest of us winded.

So when is it not campaign season?

congratulations to dr. wulsin on declaring her candidacy early.

being in district 1, i'm stuck with that old sod who likes to drive an old car and mow his grass to forget his part in the bloody fiasco we call iraq. still i think enough of dr. wulsin and the good that she can do that i donated to her campaign because this area needs credible representation in washington, something we just don't get with the ilks of schmidt, boehner, and chabot.

has the campaign started early? you bet it has. its the biggest sign that this country is sick of the neocons and their christo fascist agenda.

i've had enough, and to paraphrase the bold type guy, i'm voting democratic in 08.

impeach, indict, and imprison I'm interested in learning about Dr. Wulsin's platform. Do you know what her positions are on the issues?

i don't have a succint summary of her positions but i got the following at wikipedia about her last campaign:

Wulsin campaigned to reform health care to provide every citizen with coverage, promised to protect Social Security and the environment, said the Iraq War "has not been worth the cost of American service personnel or the dollars we have spent", and said America needed "fair trade" in the proposed CAFTA agreement. She also strongly defended legalized abortion.

for me, wulsins most significant value is that she is not jean schmidt. neocons like schmidt are ruining this county and endangering democracy with their every breath. by definition, anyone who runs against them is simply the better choice.

Ahh, impeach indict and inprison, you've got the wrong mindset. Sometimes, voting against someone only serves to make the situation worse.

Dr. Wulsin is deserving of representing our district for many reasons, not the least of which is she is NOT Jean Schmidt. but it's Schmidt's service and public record that makes us sick of her. No one in District 2 wants a nuclear waste dump in our backyards. There's the lies, the plagerisnm, the blind lock-stepping after the President, the toxic waste deal, the lack of accountability to Duke Energy over the failing power issues in her district. In addition, she is a Catholic who shows up in her home parish long enough to make a show of it, then leaves in the middle of mass (she goes to my aunt's church and I've seen her do it, that's how I can say it). In short, she's no Christian; Jean Schmidt is a hypocrite. By your actions are you known, Jean. Your actions are disgusting.

The main reason I like Vic Wulsin is the fact BOTH her grandfathers were ministers. She knows the true meaining of worship. Yes, she's pro-choice. That's what the law is now, and I don't like it; but I've also taught my children not to follow any man's law, but to follow God. Period. So Washingotn's views and Wulsin's views on abortion matter not to me, because we have taught our children properly in our home and we don't have to worry about such garbage.

I also don't like hypocrite Republicans who claim to be pro life but want to keep the death penalty. You can't have it both ways, and I think Vic would be better than Schmidt because she has some dignity, some honor, some integrity, and she's not the President's mouthpiece and the laughingstock of Congress.

Anon 12:40 AM, April 20, 2007 ...Thank you for pointing out your hypocrisy as you label other hypocrites.

You cite: "The main reason I like Vic Wulsin is the fact BOTH her grandfathers were ministers. She knows the true meaning of worship. Yes, she's pro-choice. That's what the law is now, and I don't like it; but I've also taught my children not to follow any man's law, but to follow God. Period. So Washington’s views and Wulsin's views on abortion matter not to me, because we have taught our children properly in our home and we don't have to worry about such garbage."

You suggest you're pro-life and you have taught your children accordingly. Then you state that the deaths of over 40,000,000 fetuses in the USA due to abortions are someone else's "garbage".

Very Sad for your children that they learn first-hand, in the home, from their parent, the heights of hypocrisy.

9:26 AM, April 20: Do NOT put words in my mouth, thank you. I said what I said. The "GARBAGE" is man's law, pro or con. Man's law will never trump God's for me. I care less if abortion is legal or not, because I don't follow that law; it is there for the non-believers. As much as I disagree with it, the law is here for a voting portion of our country...the athiest portion. They have a right to be here, and the law is for them.

I will assume, at great personal expense, you are in agreement on the issue of abortion. However, you are a flaming hypocrite if you claim to be a Christian, then ignore Christ's direct teachings on the subject of judgement and death. In short, you CANNOT be a Christian and support the death penalty, and this is MUCH BIGGER than abortion.

If you support the death penalty, you are aborting the spiritual lives being developed in God's womb. Do you understand it now, if I explain it to you this way?

I read your nonsense writings. The fact that "impeach, indict, and imprison" supports you speaks volumes.

Going thru life with blinders and ear plugs does not absolve you for being ignorant and stupid.

The comparison of taking life from innocent Aborted babies does not equate to the taking of a guilty criminals life, as judged by their peers. You’ve written that you think differently.
