Why is Gonzales still there?

Attorney General Albert Gonzales, criticized for bad management, politicizing the Justice Department and misrepresenting the facts about the firing of eight United States attorneys, must also be hard of hearing.

How could he listen to the comments by Senate Republicans during and after his Thursday testimony before the Judiciary Committee and not realize it is time to resign? Remember, these are Republicans talking.

Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., senior Republican on the committee: “Your characterization of your participation is significantly, if not totally, at variance with the facts,” he said at the hearing. After Gonzales called him Friday for a post mortem on the hearing, Specter told reporters: “I told him, ‘Everything I had to say about the hearing I’ve already said.’ ” (translation: I said he lied, didn't you hear me?)

Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback, another Republican on the committee, issued an unenthusiastic statement Friday that handed the hot potato right back to Gonzales: “As for whether the attorney general should resign, that is a question I leave to him and to the president.” (translation: What the heck is he waiting for?)

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., at Thursday’s hearing: “Most of this is a stretch,” referring to Gonzales’ explanations. (translation: You expect us to believe this stuff?)

Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., astounded at Gonzales’ 50 claims of not being able to remember things during the hearing, said later: “I think it’s going to be difficult for him to be an effective leader... At this point, I think (Gonzales) should be given a chance to think it through and talk to the president about what his future should be.” (translation: Go! Go now!)

Whatever Gonzales’ future should be, not even his friends think it should be at the Justice Department.

The bigger question is why is this administration still in power. It is corrupt beyond description and has shredded the constitution in ways no one could imagine.

But to your question, the answer is real simple. President Custer values loyalty over everything else and Fredo is loyal to a fault. Their arrogance has blinded them to the point where they truly believe they are above the law. Gonzales will be there until Bush is forced to fire him against his own wishes.

Once Gonzales is removed, look for him to land in a position in some think tank funded by a right wing gazillionaire. Perhaps Blackwell can serve as a character reference.

P.S. Love your pet? Consider that when pressed this administration refused to say what companies recieved poisoned feed from china because they are more interested in protecting the profits of the companies then the health of your pet.

is it naivete or denial that would cause you to confuse opposition with hatred?

when i write, its to express my determined opposition to neo conservatism and christo fascism. i truly believe our country, our democracy, our freedoms, indeed our very way of life are threatened more from within by bush and his followers than from outside by evil.

for the record, and in honor of earth day, the furnace keeps me warm at night and the air conditioner keeps me cool in the summer :)

10:33 AM, April 22, 2007 ..What? In honor of Earth Day you deplete the earth of limited coal and natural gas resources. That makes as much sense as the rest of your posts.

Anonymous, it's obvious when all one can do is call names ("Hater") that you have no counterargument to what impeach/indict/etc. is saying about Gonzales. Not only does AG need to go, a special prosecutor is needed to get to the bottom of who chose to get rid of these particular prosecutors and why. There's a reason Gonzales is lying, and so many emails are "missing."

Impeach, indict and imprison are proposed solutions to the problem that is the Bush Administration. George W. Bush is the sole reason Jimmy Carter isn't the worst president in history. Take the Carter Administration's incompetence, stir in the Nixon Administration's corruption, multiply by 10 and you have the Bush Administration.

3:00 PM anonymous, you're agenda blinds you so much that you miss the whole point or choose to ignore it, including the :)

unless you are a luddite or a green wacko, you use a furnace and probably use an air conditioner. you mow your grass and you probably recyle.

i am no different than the rest of your neighbors. i love america (gasp, is it possible for liberals to love america?). i live in a house, i work for a living, i vote in all the elections, i drive an suv, i pay my taxes, i pay my bills, i want life to be better for my kids, it scares me that religous nuts want to change our way of life (its really not relevant whether they are muslim or christian). i am solidly middle class and yet my way of life is under attack by the current administration. that is what drives me in my opposition.

I would like to chime in. If Gonzales is guilty of corruption or fixing cases he should go. If Gonzales is just getting rid of 8 judges that are not aligned in law principles with Bush he should stay. There is no difference between Clinton firing 90+ judges at the start of his first term versus Bush firing 8 judges at the start of his 2nd term.

impeach, indict, and imprison ...
... It doesn't matter how many pseudo names you post and reply to your own postings. Your message and writings are the same. Very sad tactic.
