Issue 5 is a vote for a healthier society

The intentionally misnamed Issue 4 -- SmokeLess Ohio, is a tobacco company con that will actually increase smoking exposure. If it passes it will override existing locally voted restrictions and, because it is a constitutional amendment, will trump Issue 5 -- the real anti-smoking issue on the ballot.

Let’s stop kidding ourselves, smoking is bad for you and it’s bad for me if I happen to be standing down haze from you. The Surgeon General says so, the health care statistics bear it out and rising health care costs hurt everybody. Knowing all that, why wouldn’t we want to reduce the exposure?

People say Issue 5 is an attack on the “rights” of smokers. They say smoking is legal and therefore the state shouldn’t tell us we can’t do it. It is legal; it’s just stupid and dangerous, to me, not just you. It’s not discriminating against anybody to tell them to keep their bad habits to themselves.

I say vote "No" on Issue 4 and “Yes” on Issue 5.

I voted yes on Issue 4 and NO on issue 5!! While we are at it, why don't we all vote to ban all alcohol in public places to avoid senseless vehicular homicides, jerks drunk at Bengals games..etc. Wouldn't the world be a better place if we didn't have "Family Friendly Sports Bars and Taverns?..do children really need to see all of the foul mouthed fans, even if they don't light up??

Enough with the nanny state already !

Issue 4 offers choice, while Issue 5 is the draconian methods of do-gooders with an agenda. What next - fining those who don't meet the height and weight standard ?? Taxing those whose kids don't make "good grades" at school. Imprisoning parents for childhood obesity ? Having lunchbox police in the cafeterias ?

Amazing how some national socialists are as impassioned against behaviors they deem "wrong" as they are "rights' they deem absolute (abortion, free speech, drugs/searches, et.al)

Must be the inner German in Mr. wells and crew rearing its Nazi-er nasty head ! "Perfect" race is the goal "by any means necessary"--even tyranny of majority if for the "correct" outcome.

Issue 5 is vote for government control over something that should be decided by the business owner. Issue 4 wipes out all local/city/county regulations and leaves smoking policies to business owners instead of any government decision. While I do not like either issue I would much rather have control on how to run my business than have the government tell me how run my business.
